TAKUBO Exhibits at SURTECH & Coating Japan 2006

Event

DATASS-300 coating concept attracts attention of attendees.

TAKUBO exhibited its newly developed X-SYSTEM robots, with the focus on DATASS-300 at the SURTECH & Coating Japan 2006 surface processing technology trade show.

The SURTECH & Coating Japan 2006 show covers the entire surface processing market. It was held at Tokyo Ryutsu Center, Heiwajima, from April 26 through 28, 2006. The TAKUBO exhibit centered around the DATASS-300 coating concept and featured the newly developed X-SYSTEM hose-less robot (concept model), DATA-PRO, and SUPER SPINDLE SS. The X-SYSTEM was shown at the side of a specially constructed stage and attracted the attention of large numbers of attendees.

SUPER SPINDLE SS and DATA-PRO

  • SUPER SPINDLE SS is a compact robot system developed specifically for coating small items such as buttons and switches. It is ideal for applications such as coating mobile phone buttons or switches for automobile interiors. SUPER SPINDLE SS is compatible with data generated by DATA-PRO.
  • DATA-PRO is a robot system designed especially for generating coating data. Once data on coating conditions has been generated by the system, it is possible to calculate the coating material consumption volume and coating time. This information is invaluable for production planning. Data generated by DATA-PRO can be transferred to coating robots such as the SUPER SPINDLE 300C or SUPER SPINDLE SS. We call this coating concept DATASS-300.

Technology Timeline — Evolution of SOFTBOY PRO Through the Fifth Generation

  • Developed in 1986, the first SOFTBOY was a ceiling-suspended, mobile coating robot employing a type of artificial muscle called “Rubbertuator.” This was the first generation of the SOFTBOY line. Many enhancements and upgrades were later added, including hybridization, incorporation of a standard PC, and compatibility with Microsoft Windows. Today’s SOFTBOY PRO is the fifth generation.
  • TAKUBO developed a networked coating technology called software pack teaching and, in 1997, become the first to develop “R-technology,” or rotating coating technology. It involves mounting work pieces on multiple circular jigs, which rotate clockwise or counterclockwise as coating takes place. The KEITAI-PACK teaching software package was also developed at this time. The rotating coating method for mobile phone handsets was unveiled at Paint Show 1998. Since then, the rotating method has become the dominant coating technique worldwide for mobile phones. Today’s SUPER SPINDLE 8-gun system can perform coating using eight guns and eight jigs at once, all with a single robot.
  • During this time there have also been advances in coating material supply technology. The diaphragm pump was eventually replaced by the gear pump and then by the syringe pump unit used in today’s SOFTBOY PRO. These advances help to reduce the coating material consumption volume while maintaining the highest quality.
